Maitland Mental Health Facility project team announced

The delivery of a new mental health facility on the Maitland Hospital campus has taken a key step forward with the project team appointed to start planning and design.

The modern, purpose-built facility will provide upgraded mental health support for adults in the Hunter and surrounding communities.

An experienced team of specialists has been engaged following a competitive tender process, including Turner and Townsend as project manager, Bates Smart as architect and MBM as cost manager.

Work is now underway on the master plan and concept design, which are expected to be ready for stakeholder and community feedback later this year.

Staff, clinicians, people with lived experience of mental health and the broader community will have opportunities to provide input on shaping the new facility as planning progresses, which is crucial to ensuring the facility meets the needs of communities across the region.

Combining the new mental health facility with the Maitland Hospital will provide better general and forensic mental health services for people seeking treatment.

The project is being delivered by Health Infrastructure in partnership with Hunter New England Local Health District, as part of the NSW Government’s $700 million Statewide Mental Health Infrastructure Program, an initiative to support mental health care reform across NSW.
